Blu-ray release of samurai anime film "Miyamoto Musashi - Soken ni Haseru Yume -" produced by Production I.G. The film is developed and penned by award-winning anime creator and director Mamoru Oshii (Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers). The film is directed by Mizuho Nishikubo. Characters are designed by Kazuto Nakazawa (Kill Bill). The story centers on Musashi Miyamoto, one of the most famous swordsmen during the early Edo period. He pioneered a sword-fighting style named Nitenichiryu and wrote "The Book of Five Rings (Gorin no Sho)," which depicts his life, his sword-fighting style, and its practice. The film is documentary animation about Musashi Miyamoto who respected Shinto and Buddhist deities, but on the other hand, killed even children to win battles based on "The Book of Five Rings."

宮本武蔵は本当に求道者だったのか・・・押井流"歴史アニメドキュメンタリー"登場! ビルボードDVDチャートで1位を記録した「GHOST IN THE SHELL/攻殻機動隊」、「イノセンス」、「スカイ・クロラ The Sky Crawlers」を生み出した押井守が原案・脚本を担当。制作は「東のエデン」、「戦国BASARA」、「スカイ・クロラ The Sky Crawlers」、「ホッタラケの島」など常に話題作を生み出しているProduction I.G。監督は押井守劇場作品の演出を手がけ、信頼も厚い西久保瑞穂。キャラクターデザインは「キル・ビルVol.1」でアニメーションパートの監督をつとめ、CMからゲームに至るまで幅広く活躍している中澤一登。晩年、宮本武蔵が熊本市近郊の金峰山・霊巌洞で執筆したとされる『五輪書』。そこには、武蔵の生涯や、二天一流と名付けた自らの剣法、その実践法が描かれている。しかし、自筆本とされながら、原本は焼失し、数多くの写本のみが遺されたこの『五輪書』こそ、新たな武蔵像を蘇らせる重要な鍵を握っている。本作はこの『五輪書』を元に、武蔵の生涯と、その特異なる剣法"二天一流"の謎に迫る歴史アニメドキュメンタリー。精神の修養者、武道の求道者として神仏を尊びながら、自らの運命をゆだねることはなく、勝利するためには幼い者すら躊躇なく手にかけた冷徹な戦略家・・・この矛盾したキャラクター・宮本武蔵を、押井守が独自の理論、解釈でいまこそ読み解く!!
