The cinematography and soundtrack are beautiful! The subtitles for this DVD are well done, so if you don't understand Japanese, you won't have to worry about bad subtitles. Chara is such an enticing actress.

Description
Produced in '94 and released theatrically in '96, this one is Shunji Iwai's short film classic. The story follows three psychologically disturbed people who are sent to an institution which they leave on a misdirected quest. Actor Tadanobu Asano (who's become one of the most popular leading actors since then) and actress/singer Chara met on the set of this film and tied the knot.

Wow, this was quite a surprise. I had previously only seen some of Iwai's more romantic films like Love Letter and April Story, so I wasn't expecting anything quite like this. Picnic is a weird, twisted and a stunningly beautiful film about three mental patiens who believe the world will come to an end today, and set out for a final journey. This film is full of mindblowingly beautiful images, accompanied by terrific soundtrack. Definitely one of the most memorable movies I've seen for a long time.
