AKIRA 1 (OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 12)

This is the first volume of the original version of Otomo Katsuhiro's "AKIRA," which contains the first 14 episodes (up to p. 279 of the first volume of the well-known version). "AKIRA" was created by Katsuhiro Otomo in 1982-1983, when he was 28 or 29 years old, and published in Young Magazine. The manga is renowned for its completeness, but in fact, the author did a lot of brushing up when publishing it in book form. Additions, corrections, deletions, replacements, page and panel replacements, additional finishing touches, new drawings, etc. In particular, it is a well-known fact that the cover artworks of each episode of the serialization were removed from the well-known book version. However, in this edition of "Otomo Katsuhiro Complete Works," we have decided to publish the original version with all of the cover artwork and restore it to its original state as much as possible. It is a must-have and must-see volume dedicated to all "AKIRA" fans.

1982-1983年、28～29歳の頃の大友克洋が制作し、当時創刊2年目のヤングマガジンで始めた連載『AKIRA』の第1～14回(単行本1巻のP279まで)を発表時のままの形で収録した、大友全集版『AKIRA』の第1集(全8巻)。漫画界に大いなる衝撃を与えた歴史的作品である本作は、その完成度でも名高いが、実は単行本化の際に著者の手でかなりのブラッシュアップが行われていた。加筆、修正、削除、差し替え、ページやコマの入れ替え、仕上げの追加、描き下ろし…等々によって磨き上げられ、完成に至ったのが、初版から40年を経て今も読まれ続けるヤンマガ単行本版『AKIRA』なのだ。特に、単行本では連載各話の扉絵が削除されているのは有名な話である。だが、この大友全集版では「全仕事を時代ごとに並べ、作家としてどのように変化してきたかも追えるように」という主旨に従い、扉絵を含めた全てを出来うる限り連載時の状態に戻し、単行本用に手を入れる前の形で復刻した「連載バージョン」にて刊行することとなった。一部、元の絵が現存しない部分や、原稿を直接修正したために、どうしても連載時の状態に戻せない部分はあるが、全集版では「可能な限り当時の状態に戻す」ことを命題とした。連載当時以来、目にする機会が完全に失われていた“LIVEな連載版『AKIRA』”は、単行本で読む“完成形の『AKIRA』”とは一味も二味も違い、発表当時の興奮を完璧に再現する全『AKIRA』ファンに捧げる必携・必見の第1巻である。なお単行本版とは異なる、激レアな第1回の見開きカラーや、連載時のカラーページ等も、すべて当時のまま復刻して収録。
