Sarutobi Ecchan is an lesser-known magical girl series made in 1971. Sarutobi Ecchan is a series about a strange girl named Etsuko (nickname: Ecchan) who has a ninja-like skills. With the assistance of her talking dog Buku, she solves various problems in her town. Ecchan is a charming, and silly series. However it does not have a main theme or plot unlike other magical girl series. While most magical girls go through mental growth, Ecchan does not. She's a very intelligant, and mentally mature girl since episode 1. Unfortunely since it was cancelled due to low ratings, Ecchan does not have a proper ending. The last episode focuses around an American Ecchan doppleganger named Eiko, who wants nothing more than to see Mount Fuji. While Ecchan is a cute series, it's not for everyone. The typical magical girl fan may not enjoy this gem.
