Description

[Machine Translation] The TV animation version of "Ashita no Joe", a milestone in sports manga, in which a lonely boy, Takeshi Yabuki, fights to become a boxing champion, is now available on Blu-ray in 4K remastered high definition! This is the directorial debut work of Osamu Izaki! Vol. 1 contains episodes 1 to 40! Episodes 33 and onward are finally available on Blu-ray for the first time! --The story begins when a young boy, Takeshi Yabuki, wanders into the downtown business district that stretches across a bridge called the Incapacitating Bridge. He is a natural born windbag who shows off his fighting skills and saves a girl, Sachi, from being bullied by the yakuza. Tange Danpei, a fist-fighting fanatic, sees this and offers him a career in boxing, but he summarily rejects the offer. However, he is sent to a reformatory for cheating Yoko Shiraki, the daughter of a philanthropic conglomerate, out of her money, where he meets his future rival, Toru Rikiishi. After sinking under Rikiishi's punches and experiencing his first sense of defeat, he suddenly becomes interested in boxing and decides to undergo special training with Danpei. Thus began the days of unimaginable struggle between the two young men. A commentary book (with comments by Chihara Jr. and Kendo Kobayashi) is enclosed. Due to rights reasons, some of the music in the film has been replaced. The ending is recorded as it was in the original master. *Please note that there are some roughness and smudges in the ending, previews, etc., which are difficult to correct by remastering.

        4K remastering is fantastic 5

I was skeptical about purchasing this blu-ray after seeing they crammed 40 episodes across two Blu-ray Discs, but rest assured the quality is incredible considering. A picky cinefile might be able to distinguish a resolution compromise but the first few episodes I viewed in this collection looked better than any anime I own on blu-ray and even 4K.
